Sure enough, it didn't take long before Preston messaged me.

Messaging has its bonuses, you could write a few words but mean something else. You could convey an emotion the opposite to what you were feeling. You could lie, tell a big fat Pinocchio fib and no one would know. Blindsided by a text, somehow it didn’t seem right.

I stabbed at the keys.

Me: I enjoyed 2day 2.

That was a lie… well, a partial one.

Preston: Gd. Marina 2morrow at 12 pm?

Me: C U there. Can’t wait.

I followed up with emojis, I pressed in a knife, and a gun, then a bomb, followed by an arrow, fireball, stiletto, umbrella, snake, sword, bat, and finally a hockey stick. I paused while my finger hovered over the send button, Go, girl, send it… I backspaced and replaced the emojis with two pink hearts. He responded with an emoji face throwing a kiss and a man and woman walking hand-in-hand.

I nearly threw up in my mouth.
